Book Run
Twice a year, in October and April, The Friends of the Library, an independent organization supporting the Alachua County Library District, hosts a large book sale that spans five days. This event features thousands of books donated by the Gainesville community and Alachua County residents, all sorted and stored in the organization’s extensive warehouse.
Key Details:
Book Sale Event: The sale attracts thousands of visitors, and despite the high volume of books sold, many remain unsold at the end of the five-day period.
Post-Sale Opportunity: On the sixth day of the sale, The Friends of the Library opens their doors to non-profit organizations, allowing them to collect the remaining books free of charge.
EDUPHIL’s Book Run:
Preparation: Before the book run, EDUPHIL members assess the needs of recipient schools in the Philippines to determine the types of books required.
Book Run Day: EDUPHIL members participate in the book run by driving to the warehouse, targeting the specific books needed, and collecting them.
Transportation and Shipping: Collected books are packed into balikbayan boxes and shipped to the Philippines, ensuring they reach the intended schools and students.
This collaborative effort with The Friends of the Library is instrumental in providing valuable educational resources to schools in the Philippines, enhancing their learning environments.
